Good afternoon, PACK families! Hope you have had a great Spring Break! We are looking forward to seeing our students tomorrow, Monday, April 8. As a reminder, there is a partial solar eclipse happening between 2:00-4:00. Although it will remain a normal school day for our district, SDPC recognizes the importance of ensuring the safety of our students during this event, especially since it coincides with our dismissal time. SDPC is providing all staff and students with eye glasses to view the eclipse. Please emphasize with your child the importance of NOT looking directly at the sun without these glasses. Regular sunglasses, tinted windows, or looking out of regular bus or car windows do not provide adequate protection and can cause eye damage. The glasses we will provide students exceed the ISO standard 12312-2 for viewing the sun. In addition, if you plan to dismiss your child early on this day, please ensure that you sign your child out of school by 1:00 p.m. We look forward to seeing you tomorrow, Wolfpack!

We kicked off our celebration of Week of the Young Child with "Music and Movement Monday!" Our Wolfpack sang, danced, waved scarves, drummed, made kazoos, played instruments, and went on musical parades around the school - just to name a few of the engaging activities our students participated in their classrooms throughout the day. Liberty Primary School had some special guests today! The South Carolina State Department of Education was so impressed with their visit to LPS a couple of weeks ago, that they asked if they could create a video about our school! They recorded teaching and learning in classrooms- and we were able to share about our journey and the resources that we use to teach our students to read. We are so proud to share the work that our teachers and students do every day, and are honored that we were chosen to share our story across the state! We look forward to sharing the feature video with you in a couple of weeks!

This just in: We are so proud to share that one of our amazing educators, Ms. Daisy Duncan, has been nominated and recognized as a Golden Apple Award winner! WYFF4 newsreporter, Sydney Shadrix, surprised Ms. Duncan this morning in her kindergarten classroom. We are so proud of Ms. Duncan and are excited to celebrate this recognition with her! Be on the lookout for the story to air on April 11th.

PACK families, we have enjoyed our celebration of Read Across America Week! All students will come home with a special book giveaway today! And don't forget- tomorrow (Friday), students may dress up as a vocabulary word! We can't wait to see their creativity!

Did you know? The Pickens County Career and Technology Center serves over 1800 students in the School District of Pickens County. With over 23 CTE pathways (including cosmetology, automotive technology, culinary arts, and manufacturing - just to name a few), students have a variety of opportunities to choose from. Did you know? Students at Liberty Middle School have the opportunity to take Gateway to Technology classes that expose them to future career options. This year, our focus is on the bio-medical field. Students enrolled in these courses participate in learning activities that let them practice analyzing a patient’s chart, taking their statistics and offering feedback, and making a diagnosis. They’ve also plated bacteria, tested antibiotics, and dissected sheep brains this year! This is just one of many opportunities our students in the Liberty area have to be exposed to career options in grades 3K-12. This just in: Teacher Cadets from Daniel High School came to observe in our Pre-K classrooms (and play in the Discovery Den!) this morning. Yesterday, high school students from the Junior Leadership Pickens County toured the school and observed in our classrooms as well. We are always so proud to promote the great things happening in our school, and hope that it inspires our community’s future leaders to choose to make an impact as educators!

PACK families, this week, we're celebrating "Liberty Loves Literacy" all throughout the community! Let’s go on a scavenger hunt for books in businesses around town! During the week of February 19-23, look for hearts in the windows of downtown businesses to find a book (or 2 or 3…!) Collect stickers on your Liberty Loves Literacy chart and turn in to the school at the end of the week to be entered into a prize drawing!
